Routes to accessing compute
We provide a brief guide to some of the most important routes to access compute that UK-based AHC researchers and innovators can use today.
-
UK HPC User Documentation Sites
Looking for a compute infrastructure in the UK but don't know where to start? CCP-AHC has developed a searchable index of the docs sites for many of the major institutional providers of HPC.

KDL Checklist for Digital Outputs Assessment, v. 3.1 (2025)
This checklist is designed by King's Digital Lab to help colleagues at King's College London prepare for the UK's Research Excellence Framework (REF) exercise with respect to the assessment of digital outputs.

Calculators¶
Calculators can help you estimate the compute and data resources you need before choosing a solution.
In the end, their outputs are based on assumptions which may or may not hold in your software. Often, the only way to accurately measure the resource you need is to run an experiment, but calculators can help you rapidly estimate the properties of different hypothetical configurations before you take this step.

LLM GPU VRAM calculator
Understand how much VRAM a given large language model (LLM) will use during training and inference. Developed by ApX Machine Learning (commercial).
-
Green Algorithms calculator
What's the carbon footprint of your computations? Produced by the Green Algorithms research project.
